Smith/Neo Music
Music ran through the heart of everything The Inevitabilitists did. The two collections below are very different in nature, and represent the results of what was referred to in the zines as "a kind of merry war" between younger members Fax and Diskette (mere whippersnappers, joining the fangroup in their fifties!) and the "upper form girls" as they jokingly called themselves, who were in their late sixties/seventies.
Now! That's What I Call Smith/Neo was a very popular fanmix series, spearheaded by Fax and Diskette. It was produced every year and had a standing slot on the Annual Conference agenda for members to recommend 'bang up to date' Smith/Neo songs. As a result, each one is a nice time capsule of songs that were largely newly released at the time of the fanmix being published. These fanmixes were apparently sold at conventions (which surely can't have been legal, even then!)
The 'We'll Meet Again' album seems to have been released as a light-hearted response to all this new-fangled music, and is a full album of classic wartime songs with the lyrics entirely rewritten to be Smith/Neo themed, performed by members with piano accompaniment.
